23-03-2009 - 'Camogie Photo of the Year' award announced

If a picture paints a thousand words, the contents of a photograph, the way in which the picture is constructed and how it appeals to the viewing eye all combine in a finished product that stands out and gives it a special character. All these ingredients are contained in this year's winning picture and the man responsible for such an eye-catching award earner is Sportsfile's Stephen McCarthy.

Speaking at the 2008 Media Awards, incorporating the Mick Dunne Memorial Awards and sponsored by RTÉ, President of Cumann Camógaíochta na nGael Liz Howard said "These awards reward those who do an excellent job in promoting camogie in print, photography, radio and television. We are delighted to be in partnership with RTÉ in honouring the memory of Mick Dunne."

This is the third year of the awards, which recognise the outstanding contributions of various media outlets and their efforts to promote camogie. Other winners included; PRO of the Year: Orla Considine, Clare, Published Article of the Year: Seamas McAleenan, Down, Broadcaster of the Year: RTÉ, Best Match Programme: Wexford County Final, Best Provincial Newspaper Coverage: Connacht Tribune and Best Local Radio: Clare FM. The President's Award went to Máire Ui Scolai, National Results Coordinator of Camogie.
