10 September 2008; Ireland's David Malone, from Ballinteer, Dublin, prepares for the Men's 100m Backstroke - S8. David finished his heat in a time of 1:16.80. This was to be Malone's last competitive swim at this level as the Dubliner announced his retirement afterwards. Malone, from Ballinteer is one of the greatest Irish Paralympians ever with a career spanning fifteen years at the highest level and three Paralympic medals to his name; silver in Atlanta 1996, gold in Sydney 2000, and bronze in Athens 2004.
