21 May 2009; Dublin-based sports management agency - Horizon Sports Management - announced the signing of Shane Lowry, the 2009 Irish Open winner. Irish amateur golfer Lowry, who won the 3 Irish Open at Baltray, announced at a press conference that he has decided to relinquish his amateur status and make his professional debut on the European Tour in next week's European Open at The London Club. 20 May 2009; The President of the International Olympic Committee, Dr. Jacques Rogge, right, unveils a commemorative bronze bust of the former IOC President, Lord Killanin, in the company of Pat Hickey, left, President of the Olympic Council of Ireland, Irish Olympic legend Ronnie Delany of the Irish Olympians Association, and Redmond Morris, 2nd from right, son of Lord Killanin, at the headquarters of the Olympic Council of Ireland in Howth, Co. Dublin. Lord Killanin, who died ten years ago, was President of the Olympic Council of Ireland from 1950 until 1973.  He was elected President of the International Olympic Committee in 1972, just after the official closing of the controversial Munich Olympic Games. A proud Galway man, Lord Killanin remained as head of the IOC for eight years, presiding over the IOC during a stormy period for Olympism, in which he had to address several crises linked to international politics including Olympic Games boycotts. The Irish Olympians Association, headed by Irish Olympic legend Ronnie Delany, commissioned the bronze bust in association with the Olympic Council of Ireland to commemorate Lord Killanin’s huge input to the development of Olympic sport in Ireland and on the world stage. The sculpte was created by Paul Ferriter, one of Dublin’s best known artists. The Minister for Arts, Sport & Tourism, Mr. Martin Cullen TD was also a guest at the unveiling ceremony along with members of Lord Killanin’s family, many Olympians and the ambassadors of Britain and Ireland. Cadbury Hero of the Future Awards

19 May 2009; Close to 2,500 walkers, joggers and runners of all abilities took part in the annual Docklands Fun Run this evening. An estimated €12,000 was raised for designated charity, Irish Autism Action. The first man over the finish line was Paul O'Connell, from Dublin, who completed the 8km run in 25 minus and 51 seconds.
