Sportsfile at 2021 World Press Photo Awards Photos

15 April 2021; Sportsfile photographer Stephen McCarthy has today been announced as the winner of 2nd prize in the prestigious ‘Sports, Singles’ category at the 2021 World Press Photo Contest with his image ‘Home Training’. The winning image, taken in May 2020, features the then 87-year-old master’s athlete Pat Naughton maintaining his daily training regime in his living room at his home in Nenagh, County Tipperary, during the on-going coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. This is the second time Stephen, who hails from Cahersiveen, County Kerry, has been recognised by the World Press Photo Foundation, collecting 2nd prize in the 2018 contest for a photograph entitled 'Steaming Scrum'.
