Launch of Pembroke Communications’ Sports Sentiment Index 2013
18 December 2013; The Pembroke Communications’ Sports Sentiment Index (SSI) 2013 was launched this morning by CEO of the Irish Sports Council, John Treacy. The SSI is a comprehensive 1,000 person nationally representative survey which examines the attitudes of Irish people towards sport, their sporting heroes, participation levels, the impact of sport on the Irish psyche and the contribution sport is making to local communities. Rob Heffernan’s outstanding achievement in capturing World Championship gold in the 50km walk in Moscow was the greatest Irish sporting achievement of 2013, but Katie Taylor is still the outstanding current sports star, ahead of rugby star Brian O’Driscoll and jockey AP McCoy. The appointment of Martin O’Neill as manager and Roy Keane as his assistant was the stand out sporting moment, while team of the year was shared by the Clare hurlers and the Grand Slam winning Irish women’s rugby team. Speaking at the launch is Martin Kennedy, Head of Coaching and Sports Science Services with NADA. Pembroke Communications, Whitaker Court, Dublin. Picture credit: Barry Cregg / SPORTSFILE
