29 October 2009; From January 1st 2010 the wearing of helmets and faceguards will be compulsory for hurlers at all levels. This will see Senior players in 2010 follow the regulations already in place at the minor and under 21 grades of hurling. In introducing and streamlining these regulations the GAA continues its commitment to ensuring player welfare on the field of play and with the specific intention of reducing injuries. 28 October 2009; Over 50 coaches from 9 sports graduated from Setanta College today with HETAC awards in Physical Fitness and Conditioning for Sport and Resistance Training and Weight Training for Sport. The awards mark the start of a major uplift in national sports coaching expertise. Setanta College offers accredited sports and coaching study programmes through distance learning and the internet. Founded in 2007, the College already has 250 students enrolled on programmes. 28 October 2009; Football is one of the most useful tools in breaking down misunderstandings about other cultures and spreading the anti-racism message.
