31 July 2020; In a year of firsts, Croke Park hosts an event that made international headlines. Around 200 members of Ireland’s Muslim community rolled out their prayer mats on the playing surface on July 31st to celebrate Eid al-Adha, the festival that follows the Hajj pilgrimage. In praising the GAA for making the stadium available, Shaykh Umar Al-Qadri, from the Irish Muslim Peace and Integration Council, said Ireland had demonstrated that it is an open and accepting society, adding: “Which place is most iconic and symbolic? Of course it is Croke Park”. Photo by Brendan Moran/Sportsfile This image may be reproduced free of charge when used in conjunction with a review of the book "A Season of Sundays 2020".
