Kilkenny Hurlers Cycle for Enable Ireland
23 February 2010; The All-Ireland winning Kilkenny hurling squad, along with past players, and Ireland's top handballers, are preparing to don a jersey of a different nature on Saturday the 6th of March - taking to the roads of Kilkenny for a thirteen stage cycle around Kilkenny City to raise money for Enable Ireland. The Cats pedalling line up includes current stars such as Henry Shefflin and Tommy Walsh, as well as former giants of the game DJ Carey, Joe Hennessy and Noel Skehan. The event has been organised by Kilkenny handball legend Michael 'Ducksy' Walsh, who amassed and incredible 38 All-Ireland senior titles. Still playing at the top levels of the sport, Ducksy now dedicates much of his time to charity fundraising. The event is also being supported by the GAA and by the Irish Handball Council. At the announcement of the final route for the cycle are Hurling All-Star of the Year Kilkenny's Tommy Walsh, left, and Kilkenny handball legend Michael 'Ducksy' Walsh, with Aine Alyward, age 4, from Knocktopher, Kikenny, and Kyle Gallagher, age 3, from Ballyragget, Kilkenny.
