2010 Gaelic Writers Association Awards
7 May 2010; The Gaelic Writers Association, GWA, tonight honoured legendary players and great journalists at their annual awards dinner held at the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel. Every year the GWA inducts iconic players from the past into their Hall of Fame to acknowledge their on-field achievements. In football Down’s Sean O’Neill, Teddy McCarthy, of Cork, and Seamus Moynihan, from Kerry, were honoured, while for hurling Eddie Keher, from Kilkenny, Galway’s Joe Connolly and Brian Whelahan, of Offaly, were given the accolade. Lifetime Achievement Awards were also presented to legendary commentator Micheal O Muicheartaigh, Seán Óg Ó Ceallacháin, one of the longest serving radio broadcasters in the world, and Tom O’Riordan, who combined a career in running and competed in the 1964 Olympics with a lifetime in print journalism. The GWA PRO of the year was also presented to Jim Forbes, from Cork, who has been Munster Council PRO for the past three years.
