GPA launches Employment Support Strategy in Kildare
8 June 2010; The GPA have launched an Employment Support Strategy in Kildare to help tackle the growing jobs crisis among inter-county players. The Strategy will provide players with essential career support locally to ensure that they tend to their personal development off the field and to assist them in meeting the challenges they are encountering in the current economic climate. The Strategy will be implemented by a dedicated committee of experts sourced in the local community led by Marty McEvoy, MD of ProActive Search & Selections Ltd, who will work in tandem with the Kildare players and the Kildare Co Board to establish a working plan for unemployed and underemployed players. The committee will manage the scheme and help develop working relationships with employers, agencies, local media and all other relevant contacts. The Employment Support Strategy is fully resourced by the Gaelic Players Association as part of its Player Development Programme, supported by the GAA. At the launch are, from left, Charlie McCreevy, European Commissioner for Internal Market Services, Kildare footballer Shane McCormack, Horse trainer Dermot Weld, Kildare footballer Alan Smith, and Dessie Farrell, Chief Executive Officer of the GPA.
