6 June 2012; Ger Killian, from Westmeath, was 10 when he was named Young Person of the Year in 2007 after his father lost his arm in a farming accident on the family farm. Ger attended his father while waiting for paramedics to arrive and was awarded for his calmness, braveness and presence of mind, when so many others would have panicked. He saved his father’s life, all the more remarkable given his young age, with the Olympic Flame during the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay through the streets of Dublin. Grove Road, Dublin.
