13 May 2013; Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni signs autographs on a visit to The Goal for Peace Programme. This is a novel programme run only in Leitrim bringing together children from Catholic and Protestant backgrounds from 10 schools in Leitrim and Fermanagh through the medium of soccer. This programme has been so successful that a follow up programme is now starting with a further 10 schools participating in the Goal to Friendship programme. These programmes also receive funding through the International Fund for Ireland (IFI) and Peace III Partnership. The Community Soccer Programme also works to build the capacity of local clubs who have been instrumental in coach education, bringing local children into the club scene for a variety of programmes including the Football for All and Summer Soccer Schools.
