11 July 2007; Sportsfile photographer Brendan Moran nominated for award. Sportsfile's Brendan Moran is one of four Irish photographers who have been nominated in the prestigious 2007 Picture Editors Awards. The Awards recognise and reward the very best in photographic journalism throughout the UK and Ireland; the winners are chosen by a ballot of picture editors across the British Isles. Brendan Moran's nominated picture, in the "Action Images Sports Picture of the Year" section, is of Darren Clarke holding the Ryder Cup after Europe's victory in the K Club. This is the Tralee man's second time to be nominated in these Awards. Eamon Ward of the Clare People, Alan Betson of The Irish Times and the Press Association's Niall Carson are the other Irish residents to be nominated. The 2007 Awards will be presented at a ceremony at Guildhall in the City of London on the evening of Wednesday 20th June before an audience of Editors, Picture Editors, and guests from the media and photographic industry. Following the ceremony, all the images submitted this year - more than 8,500 of them, will be posted online. A copy of Brendan's picture is enclosed.
